Bhutan: Bitget and GMC sign cooperation agreement to initiate the process of obtaining financial service licenses for Gelephu Mindfulness City.
In August 2026, global cryptocurrency exchange Bitget signed a cooperation agreement with the GMC Authority of Bhutan to launch its licensed digital asset business in the Gelephu Mindfulness City Special Administrative Region. The GMC has an independent financial services regulatory framework (Financial Services Act 2025), with the GFSO responsible for license approval. Currently, eight licensed institutions have already established operations there. Bitget is currently in the very early stages of the licensing process, which involves several phases, including legal entity registration, a preliminary meeting with the GFSO, formal application, and approval in principle.
